Vulnerability

A very personal painting about the vulnerability of being (in a body). Painted by candlelight during a healing process & with enormous gratitude for this body and all it does for me!

This painting is still in process. I may split it into 4 paintings or develop it further as a whole. I had been focussing on florals for some time and this painting is an abstraction from flowers and other botanical forms.

This was a joy to paint, I feel like I really captured the magnificent energy of this young charging Bull Elephant!

Letting Go!

To loosen up before painting I like scribbling and playing with whatever paint and tools I have to hand, freely, without really thinking about what I'm doing. Sometimes the results are pretty good!

This next portrait was painted with a photographic reference. I was interested in the way people use nature as decoration & adornment, and wanted further practice in painting faces

& Another intuitively channeled elemental being that turned up in a painting at the last moment...

Studio

In September 2017 I was given this beautiful studio which was the beginning of a whole new chapter of exploration & expression. I'd harboured a long buried desire to paint for years, and having this space finally gave me permission to do that! Looking back now, I know it's silly... I needn't have waited for the right space- imagine if it had not come along for another decade or two... Or never at all... It's best to just jump in and start doing what you love as soon as you can, making the most of what you have!
